In August of 2011, the Prayer Shawl Ministry began at Cornerstone Church. Having grown from a handful of members, there are currently over 30 women and men who have various positions within the ministry. There are folks who crochet, knit, pray and provide administration duties as well as make deliveries. Shawls, mantles, baby blankets, cancer caps, and scarves are prayerfully made to bring comfort, love, compassion, empathy, celebration and more to those who receive them. As of the end of August, 2015, they have made 1394 shawls caps and scarves. They gave out 431 in 2010–their most ever for an average of 35 per month. They’ve gone to church members, people in our community, Relay for Life participants, local hospitals, the families (as well as the dispatchers and first responders) of the Newtown tragedy, Teen Challenge, the Angel Tree ministry, and to the family, teachers and friends of a boy who was accidentally killed at school in Gardner, Massachusetts. They have gone out to other states such as California, Texas, Maine and Connecticut. They have also been sent to various countries including India, Canada, Nicaragua, India, and the Netherlands.
